"Healthy Smiles, Healthy Kids"  |

A project of the RHC, "Healthy Smiles, Healthy Kids" is a managed restorative dental care program funded by Orland Park Dental Services Inc (OPDS). OPDS provides school-based preventive dental treatment to income-eligible children in Winnebago, Boone and Stephenson counties.
Through the Healthy Smiles, Healthy Kids program, begun in January 2008, children in urgent need of dental care are identified by school dentists or other referral sources, and contact information sent to a part-time, bilingual case manager. Parents or guardians of these students are contacted by telephone or letter to determine referral. Children who have a "dental home" are referred back to their provider of record. Those with no dental home are referred for treatment. |

PROGRAM OBJECTIVES

• Recruit and retain a core group of dentists to participate in the program.
• Increase the number of children who have access to dental services. • Thirty percent (30%) of urgent need referrals will complete treatment. • Link 15% of referrals to available resources for ongoing dental health care. • Improve acccess to dental health services for the targeted population. • Increase community awareness and involvement in children's dental health. |
